The Veiled Prophecy Organization organized this semi-public event, which was neither the Met Gala nor the AVN Awards ceremony, which were beloved and revered by everyone. Perhaps it's just me, but I can't help picturing a masked mansion orgy à la Eyes Wide Shut in 1999, when Ellie was still a 19-year-old girl.
However, who exactly is the Veiled Prophecy Organization? Rich individuals established the clandestine and contentious organization in the late 1800s, and it is said to have links to white supremacist organizations in Missouri. Prior to their exposure in the celebrity gossip columns because of the Ellie connection, reputable newspapers like The Atlantic had already published articles on the group and its claims of racism and elitism.
It made me a little sad that my wholesome fantasy obsession might be a member of a secret wealthy Nazi cult. Despite the fact that Ellie looks gorgeous in that white prom-queen wedding gown, the picture of her being crowned Veiled Prophet Queen of Love and Beauty is just strange. I remained dubious, though, of headlines referring to her as a KKK Princess. "It really is something that Ellie Kemper was the star of a TV show about a woman who leaves a racist cult and attempts to rebrand herself while pretending it never happened," TV reviewer Jon Negroni penned.
On her side, Ellie immediately published a lengthy Instagram post denouncing white supremacy. The entire thing struck me as genuine, maybe because I was already a fan of the star, but it was the predictable course of action for someone in that position. At any rate, she was only a teenager when it occurred. The Veiled Prophet Organization issued a statement soon after Ellie's, admitting to their shady past and committing to improve things for everyone going forward.
Ellie Kemper Returns to the Start
Ellie came from a somewhat privileged background, as you may not have inferred from the entire wealthy cult incident. She was born into a wealthy family in Missouri and given the name Elizabeth Claire Kemper in May 1980. She doesn't need to make people laugh in order to make ends meet because her father is the executive chairman of a bank holding business that the Kemper family started. She reminds me of Julia Louis-Dreyfuss in this regard. Despite coming from affluent and attractive families, both comedians managed to develop their talent and sense of humor.
In general, the education section of Ellie's Wikipedia entry is not surprising. She attended prestigious suburban schools, joined theater and improv in high school, and earned a BA from an Ivy League institution, notably Princeton.
