You might recall seeing the comedy if you are a particular age. If you watched Diff'rent Strokes, the American comedy that aired in the late 1970s and late 1980s, you surely recall Dana Plato. Alongside Gary Coleman's wisecracks, she was the teenage heartthrob that helped make Diff'rent Strokes the ratings powerhouse it was at the time. Dana Plato's life, however, followed a path that is all too typical of actors who grew up in the entertainment industry, despite her years of success on the show (until she was kicked out—more on that later). However, let's first examine Dana Plato's origins before discussing any of that.

The Early Life and Career of Dana Plato
At the age of ten, Dana Plato made her acting debut in a one-off role on the American television program The Sixth Million Dollar Man, which centered around a man who was brutally killed by a gang of criminals but revived with superhuman power, speed, and other nonsense thanks to 1970s technology and a few million dollars. Perhaps Dana Plato played a character who informed the protagonist, Steve Austin—who, by the way, was just some idiot named "Steve Austin," not "Stone Cold Steve Austin"—that even a 10-year-old could understand how incredibly idiotic the show's premise is.
She then appeared in a number of films throughout the late 1970s, but it wasn't until she was discovered by a producer on The Gong Show, a game program. This was an American game show from the 1970s where participants did everything from performing show tunes about pasta to masturbating in front of a live audience until the majority of the judges didn't hit a gong to indicate that the contestant was a loser, had awful ass, and should probably rub shit all over their face in shame. One of the competitors who was able to make an impression was Dana Plato, who was later cast on the American comedy Diff'rent Strokes as Kimberly Drummond, the older sister of adopted brothers Arnold Jackson (Gary Coleman) and Willis Jackson (Todd Bridges).

Rise to the status of American Heartthrob
The American TV network NBC debuted Diff'rent Strokes in 1978, and it quickly gained popularity. Dana Plato's natural beauty transformed Diff'rent Strokes into a must-see weekly event, and Gary Coleman's witty remarks, which popularized the phrase "Whatchya talkin' 'bout Willis," in the American vocabulary for many years. Plato's rapid fame was noted, and as a result, he was given the top billing in the show's credits for four years.
The timing of Dana Plato's entry into the American entertainment scene was ideal. In the early 1980s, as the 1970s came to an end and the United States began to enter the decade, there was an apparent need for and infatuation with teenage performers. Young people from all walks of life enjoyed magazines like Tiger Beat, which featured their teen celebrity crushes on their walls, lockers, and other locations. Like Molly Ringwald, Valerie Bertinelli, Demi Moore, and other American teen heartthrobs of the time, Dana Plato was a perfect example of that paradigm.

Dana Plato's charm and intelligence in the part of Kimberly Drummond led to magazine covers, television guest appearances, and even a part in the sequel to the notorious The Exorcist, titled Exorcist II: The Heretic. In addition to the film California Suite, which received awards from the Academy Awards and the Golden Globe Awards, she also acted in the popular television movies High School U. S. A. and A Step in Time.

Additionally, that wasn't the whole story. In addition to her two TV Land Award nominations and a Young Artist Award nod for her work on Diff'rent Strokes, Dana Plato was also nominated for a Young Artist Award during this time. In a few short years, Dana Plato went from being relatively unknown to being a successful young actress who had already been nominated for several awards and appeared to be headed toward stardom. However, everything changed with one quick choice.

Dana Plato became pregnant with her musician partner in late 1983, and one of her co-stars claimed that she was overjoyed by the pregnancy. The producers of Diff'rent Strokes, however, were not at all pleased. The Kimberly Drummond character was cut from the show altogether as a result of a combination of Dana Plato's pregnancy and difficulties in her personal life that were starting to jeopardize Diff'rent Strokes' "wholesome family comedy" image. She made sporadic appearances during the show's last several seasons, but she was never as successful as in earlier years.

Dana Plato moves into adult roles.
Following the conclusion of Diff'rent Strokes once and for all, Dana Plato sought to break into more serious parts, but her possibilities dwindled. She appeared in the June 1989 issue of Playboy after getting breast implants, and my goodness, she was extremely attractive! I was reviewing her images for ThePornDude, and even by 1980s standards, I had to expose my dick and begin masturbating. Really? How could she not get a job?
She did, in a way. Given her Playboy experience, I'm not at all shocked that Dana Plato starred in the low-budget film Bikini Beach Race in 1989. Who wouldn't want to see that rack for a few minutes? That much I can assure you right now, and I truly would!

A few years later, Dana Plato appeared in Lethal Cowboy as well. However, she first tried to establish herself as a musician. She cut a few songs in 1990, but they were never made public. Her life started to spiral out of control at this point.

The Fall of Dana Plato
In 1990, after the 1980s were coming to a close and Dana Plato had split up with her spouse, the pair formally divorced. As a result, Dana Plato was granted visitation rights but also lost custody of her child. Her existence became worse in 1991.
"the girl who played Kimberly on Diff'rent Strokes" robbed the cashier at gunpoint in a Las Vegas, Nevada, video shop on February 28, 1991, according to the cashier's 911 call. Dana Plato pulled out a pellet gun in the center of the video store in the Nevada desert and demanded that the cashier empty the cash register. After the cashier complied, Dana Plato fled the scene.

Strangely, Dana Plato went back to the video store fifteen minutes or so later. Maybe she wanted more money, or maybe she wanted to use the money she had just stolen to buy some snacks and rent a movie. Whatever the cause, as soon as she arrived, police officers were there, and she was taken into custody right away. As it turned out, Dana Plato had only taken $164.

By this time, Dana Plato's kid co-stars Gary Coleman and Todd Bridges had also had their share of media issues, which sparked a national debate in the United States about the reasons behind the dramatic decline of child stars. Dana Plato and the other child stars of the 1970s and 1980s, such Corey Haim, Corey Feldman, Andrew Koenig, and others, rose to prominence as the faces of the risks associated with rising to fame too quickly in Hollywood. Dana Plato was still establishing a reputation for herself as an actor.

The Unusual Role of Dana Plato and Her Return to Adult Roles
With Night Trap in 1992, Dana Plato made what may be considered the first move by an actress from Hollywood roles to a starring role in a video game, even if she was completely unaware of it at the time. The game, which featured live action video, starred Dana Plato as a sorority sister in a sorority house that was invaded by vampires looking for sultry necks. To prevent Dana Plato and her sorority sisters from being bitten, the player must employ a security system to set traps.
For a video game at the time, the game was incredibly violent and excessive, and it quickly gained a cult following. Night Watch gained far more notoriety than it had hoped for and so richly deserved, as grumpy old bitches complained about video game violence, particularly in Mortal Kombat. She starred in the softcore erotic movie Different Strokes: The Story of Jack and Jill... and Jill a few years after, and she also graced the pages of the lesbian magazine Girlfriends.

The Sudden Passing of Dana Plato
Dana Plato passed away from a drug overdose on May 8, 1999. The overdose was initially thought to be unintentional, but it was eventually determined to be a suicide as a result of her long struggle with drug addiction. The decision is incorrect, according to some, including Todd Bridges, Dana Plato's co-star. Following her passing, Dana Plato's body was cremated, and her ashes were dispersed throughout the Pacific Ocean.
Ideas:
In Diff'rent Strokes, Dana Plato played the role of a loving, eccentric sister to two adopted boys from Harlem, New York City, New York, before becoming a seductive adult performer. Unfortunately, her personal troubles led to the premature end of her life and career. However, decades after her death, people still remember her sex appeal and body of work.
